Livorno offers numerous possibilities for full day
shore excursions. The most popular is Florence but we also want to offer
your clients (who may have already visited Florence) the possibility of
visiting Lucca and Pisa, as well as two “A Step Above” experiences.
FLORENCE
TOUR 1
Pick up at Livorno. Transfer with driver to Florence. Begin a half-day
walking tour (with our special English speaking guide) of Florence Highlights
including pre-set admissions to the Academy Museum to see Michelangelo’s
David. Alternatively clients may choose a three- hour visit to the Uffizi
Museum and Santa Croce where Florence’s most famous citizens are
buried. Lunch on own. Afternoon free for shopping, wandering and exploring
before returning to Livorno.
TOUR 2
The ultimate “shop till you drop” tour. Pick up and transfer
from Livorno to the Mall, heaven for “Made in Italy” shoppers.
This new shopping haven has all of the famous designer names- Valentino,
Ferragamo, Gucci, etc. Proceed to Florence for lunch (on own). The afternoon
will be dedicated to a tour of the “Artisan Workshops” (Oltrarno)
–where Florentine artisans still work on antiques, mosaics, antique
silk—escorted by an expert guide who will also point out the artistic
and historical splendors on this side of the Arno. Return in late afternoon
to Livorno.
LUCCA AND PISA
This tour visits two gems of Italy’s artistic
history. Transfer to Lucca for a tour by an expert English- speaking guide
of this charming, elegant walled Renaissance city—full of Renaissance
and Gothic palaces and old shops. Lunch on own. We will provide a list
of recommended restaurants. Then after a brief last minute stroll through
Lucca’s streets, transfer to Pisa for a brief tour (with an English
speaking guide) of the world famous 12th century Campo dei Miracoli, including
the Duomo, the Baptistry and of course the Leaning Tower. Return to Livorno.
“A STEP ABOVE” TOUR 1
This is designed for lovers of wine and the beautiful Tuscan countryside.
Transfer in early morning with English speaking driver and hostess to
heart of the Chianti wine country. The Folonari family, owners of the
world- renowned Ruffino Wineries, has designed this day especially for
Sophisticated Italy. The first stop will be at Montemasso, on the top
of a hillside near Greve. It is also the sight of an ancient 11th century
hermitage—currently being restored. Wine-tasting of the Ruffino
Chianti (their Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale is particularly famous).
Then passing through the breathtaking Tuscan landscape, the group will
arrive at Poggio Casciano (a few kilometers from Florence at Quarate di
Bagno a Ripoli) headquarters of Ruffino where a classic Tuscan lunch will
be served, accompanied by their famous wines—and cooked by the Folonari’s
personal
Chef in their elegant dining room. A tour of the vineyards and ancient
cantina will follow accompanied by another wine tasting, including a number
of the Super Tuscan wines, which Ruffino is famous for. Transfer back
to Livorno in the late afternoon. UPON REQUEST
“A STEP ABOVE” TOUR 2
This tour combines a guided tour of Lucca and a stop at the Campo dei
Miracoli in Pisa with a special lunch and short cooking lesson at the
country estate in the Luccan hills, of the Countess Marcella Grabau, a

old family recipes) with a brief history of Lucca’s noble families
and a short cooking lesson. Visitors will be provided with a special recipe
