VILLA SANTA CATERINA
Villa Santa Caterina was built in the early eighteenth century and lovingly restored by an American-Australian family in 1996. Every effort has been made to retain its original character using old and authentic materials wherever possible. The main house is about 3,300 square feet with wood beam ceilings and terracotta floors. The villa is decorated in very comfortable Umbrian/Tuscan style with many antiques and oriental rugs.
Santa Caterina is located on the top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Valencino valley. From its vantage point, it has magnificent views in all directions—gently rolling hills and farmlands on one side and rugged mountains with medieval castles on the other. The villa is in the heart of Umbria, seven miles from the village of Umbertide and it is very close to Perugia, Assisi and Gubbio. Both Orvieto (famous for its wine and its magnificent Cathedral) and Deruta (renowned for its pottery) are a short drive away.
The ground floor of the villa has a large entrance hall, living room with wood burning fireplace, dining room and a well-appointed kitchen with doors to a covered terrace, perfect for al fresco dining. On the other side of the entrance hall is a bedroom with two single beds and an adjoining bathroom. Nearby is a laundry room with a washer and dryer. There are two large patios with comfortable outdoor furniture outside the villa’s ground floor.
Upstairs there is a cozy sitting room with a wood burning fireplace, a small library with a TV/DVD/VCR, a large master bedroom (with air conditioning) and en suite bathroom as well as another en suite bedroom with queen-size bed.
The villa has an adjoining lofted cottage with a full kitchen, living room and bathroom upstairs and a full bedroom with queen-size bed in the loft.
